Friday Science Break

Friday Science Break – What is Network Neuroscience?

November 25, 2016 By John

If you want to raise eyebrows in the scientific community, just bring up the subject of mind control.

Mind control has fascinated humans for as long as humans have had the ability to contemplate such a feat. It is also a subject that has traditionally fallen under the category of science fiction.

Few people would disagree that pressing a finger to your temple and staring into the eyes of a stranger would only lead to awkward feelings . . . and perhaps a little aggression.

But there are legitimate studies taking place right now that are exploring the possibility of mind control by hacking into the most advanced network in the known universe: the neural network.

This is known as network neuroscience, and it’s getting a lot of attention at a little college up in Cambridge called MIT.

So next time you get a break, take a minute to check out the following article:

How Network Neuroscience is Creating a New Era of Mind Control

Happy Friday!

Friday Science Break – What is Antisense?

November 18, 2016 By John

One of my favorite topics is science fiction. Planet-hopping marauders venturing across galaxies far and wide, monsters lurking in the shadows, aliens beaming up campers and ruining vacation plans . . . Everything sci-fi thrills the hell out of me.

Still, some sci-fi is a little out there (not that there’s anything wrong with that). While I love a far-out sci-fi yarn as much as the next guy, what really gets my gears turning is a healthy dose of science fiction that’s based on a little science fact.

That’s why I’ve decided to devote each Friday to sharing a link with my readers that covers some incredible breakthroughs in science, medicine, technology, and a whole lot more.

We’ll start with the topics that heavily influenced my sci-fi thriller, The R.E.M. Effect, and go from there.

So if you’ve got a few minutes to kill this Friday, check out the link below. This week I’d like to share an article from 2013 covering the real-life advancement of antisense technology.

While this tech takes an ominous turn in The R.E.M. Effect, the advancement of antisense is promising for the future of healthcare.
